Express photo by Mark Oliver Sun Valley Carolers will make an appearance for the third annual Classical Christmas Concert at the Sun Valley Opera House on Dec. 23 and for the Sun Valley Christmas Eve celebration on Dec. 24.

The Sun Valley Resort will present its third annual Classical Christmas Concert, a quintessential Christmas classic, on Thursday, Dec. 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Sun Valley Opera House. Doors will open at 7 p.m. As with everything Sun Valley, the caliber of talent in the show reaches far beyond the small mountain town.

The show will feature two highly acclaimed sopranos, Celena Shafer and Leslie Mauldin, well-known tenor John Mauldin, New York jazz pianist Paul Tillotson, long-time local favorite Joe Fos and the Sun Valley Carolers.

The third annual Classical Christmas Concert will include excerpts from Handel's "Messiah" and holiday classics such as "O Holy Night," "White Christmas," "Jingle Bells" and "Silent Night."

A group of talented young singers will join in "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" to usher in jolly old St. Nick. In addition, the Hatvani Chamber Ensemble will lend a beautiful piano and string accompaniment. With musical direction from R.L. Rowsey, another valley favorite, and artistic and stage direction from Melodie Taylor-Mauldin, the show will be a guaranteed and incredible feast for the eyes and ears.

In recognition of Sun Valley's 75th season, complimentary truffles, hot chocolate, coffee and tea will be served before the show and during intermission. Tickets are $35. For tickets, call the Sun Valley recreation office at 622-2135.

For more holiday joy, take part in another annual event at the Sun Valley Resort. Christmas Eve in Sun Valley, on Friday, Dec. 24, will have festivities beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the Sun Valley Carolers followed by the "Nutcracker on Ice" at the Sun Valley outdoor ice rink at 5:45 p.m. After the show, the traditional torchlight parade down Dollar Mountain will be followed by fireworks and include a special appearance by Santa Claus.

Enjoy free ice skating after the show. Also enjoy free hot chocolate and cookies prior to the start of festivities. Meet on the Sun Valley Lodge Terrace or in the ice rink bleachers to view the performances.
