Dorothy L. "Dossie" Hayward, 95, died peacefully in her home in Twin Falls on Dec. 9, 2010. Her husband, Louis, and their children, Stephen, Leigh and Nancy, were with her. Dossie and Louis were longtime summer residents of the Ketchum area, having built a log home on the Warfield Homestead in Warm Springs Creek Canyon. Dossie was a member of the Big Wood Presbyterian Church, Delta Gamma Fraternity and a graduate of Indiana University School of Nursing.
A celebration of life was held in Twin Falls on Dec. 16 with full military rites. Dossie received the Bronze Star for her service as chief nurse of the 3rd Platoon, 30th Field Hospital attached to the 5th Infantry Division in the European Theater during World War II. Dorothy was discharged from active duty as a captain.
Internment will be in the spring in the Ketchum Cemetery. The family is asking that any donations in her memory be made to the Women in the Military Memorial in Washington, D.C. Information can be obtained online at www.womensmemorial.org.
