Valley needs a doggy park

I am a former resident of the Hailey/Ketchum area, currently living in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. I moved down here for the winter along with my Italian greyhound, Tanner. I was thrilled to find that Havasu has several doggy parks where dogs can run free, take care of business and visit their doggy friends, where pans of drinking water are provided as well as swimming/wading pools for warmer days and plastic bags and shovels to pick up the waste.

A couple of the parks divide the dogs up according to size, less and more than 35 pounds. There is also a sidewalk around the park so that the doggy owners can do a few laps while the dog is getting exercised off the leash.

This has been such a blessing and I wondered why Hailey/Ketchum does not have any of these parks. I think this would be a wonderful project for someone or some group to take on. Since it is such a cold area with lots of ice and snow, it would be great if part of the park was covered so that the ground could be kept clear for dogs with little or no hair or short legs. Another positive would be that it would keep down the amount of waste that people are always complaining about on the bike paths and trails around the area.

If someone would be interested in starting up a project of this nature, I would be more than willing to help out with making calls and doing what I could to help get this project off the ground. (Or on the ground.)
