Sun Valley Resort will kick off its 75th season this week with several celebrations. In addition, the resort has made available its own specially labeled wine. Two commemorative wines were commissioned from George IV Wines of Sun Valley.
"We talked about the many ways to commemorate the start of the 75th season," said Doug Horn, the Sun Valley Resort food and beverage director. "The idea came up to have the 75th season wine label."
He said the resort had George IV Wines make a commemorative label for the 2009 Special Olympics, which were held at various venues in Idaho.
George IV Wines winemaker Russ Robbins will be at Sun Valley today through Sunday to unveil the Sun Valley Resort 75th Season 2008 Sauvignon Blanc from the Yountville region of Napa Valley. The Sun Valley Resort 75th Season 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon was made from grapes grown at the Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard in the historic Rutherford region of Napa.
Tastings will be available from 3-8 p.m. at the Sun Valley Inn Continental Room. In addition, the resort will have several wines for sale from its own cellar.
"It's great wine," Horn said. "I tried them well before any labels were printed and the wines are wonderful. George IV did an excellent job on the cab. I love the cab."
Sun Valley Resort 75th Season 2008 Sauvignon Blanc will sell for $30 and Sun Valley Resort 75th Season 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon will sale for $80. Both wines sold together will be $100.
The commemorative label wine will be for sale until there is no more. The wines will be sold at the wine tastings and in the Sun Valley Resort Deli and Wine Shop in Sun Valley Village.
