Zoning loophole a bad idea

Once again, we find our city government making inappropriate deals to toss our comprehensive plan out the window. We had a considerable battle with the city over this in our neighborhood not long ago, which I won't go into here.

Now we find that the mayor and council are trying to cut some kind of sweetheart deal with this man who's proposing a new market in the light-industrial area. I'm sure he'd like that—buying cheaper land for his new place while downtown stores that play by the rules are run out of business. Right now, they're taking steps that will result in more empty shop windows in the middle of our town, a real turn-off for tourists.

How many chances do we have to get this right? Everyone needs to show up at this next meeting on Dec. 6 at 5:30 p.m. and speak up.
