Midgets sweep Salt Lake hockey tourney

5-0 in Turkey Weekend shootout

It's still early in the season, but the Sun Valley Midgets are red hot in high school hockey—despite the frigid weather.

Coach Chris Benson and Ryan Enrico's Midgets (ages 15-18) won all their five games and outscored opponents 14-3 during the four-team, second annual Turkey Shootout Nov. 26-28 at Salt Lake City, Utah.

Sun Valley won Sunday's title game 2-0 over Idaho Falls on goals by Mason Noyes (unassisted) and Parker Weekes (assists Tom Crosby, Ian Murphy). Goalie Cody Levitan (11 saves) got the shutout. Sun Valley out-shot Idaho Falls 22-11.

In the four preliminary contests, Sun Valley defeated Idaho Falls 3-2, beat Utah Select Green 2-1, blanked Salt Lake City Select Black 4-0 and outscored Salt Lake City Black 3-0.

Doug King scored twice and Tom Crosby chipped in with two assists in the 3-2 victory over Idaho Falls on Friday that opened Sun Valley's victory sprint. Levitan made 10 saves on 12 shots in that game.

Crosby tallied both goals and Thomas Heinrich had two assists as Sun Valley out-shot Utah Select Green 31-13 and wound up winning 2-1. Goalie Levitan kept his team in the game with 12 saves on 13 shots.

Sun Valley spread around the scoring in its next two wins over Select Black 4-0 (out-shooting its foe 28-5) and Salt Lake Black 3-0 (with a 33-9 shooting edge).

Charlie Evans, Weekes, King and Cooper Hanley were the scorers in the 4-0 rout, with Anthony Martin and Crosby earning two assists each. In the 3-0 shutout, scorers were Murphy, Evans and Davis Hague.
