The mayor and City Council must consider all the ramifications of the decision regarding the amendment to allow a grocery store in the Light Industrial zone.
Larry Helzel, in his lecture at last week's City Council meeting, brought up the fact that grocery stores operate on very narrow margins. But this is only half of the equation (margin x turnover = gross profit). Reducing the inventory turnover by spreading total inventory over three stores in town will not only reduce profitability and vitality but lower the quality of fish and produce as it sits.
Councilman Helzel also brought up risk capital. What better example of risk capital than the capital being put into Roxy's Market by the market's two wonderful entrepreneurs, and they have parking. Let's keep the playing field level.
