Hailey Turkey Trot returns on Thanksgiving Day

Now in its seventh year, the Hailey Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 25, has become a great family tradition. Souper Supper and Girls on the Run benefit from the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) family fun run and walk. Presented by Blaine County Title, the event begins rain-or-shine at 10 a.m. from The Community Campus in Hailey.

For more details and registration visit haileyturkeytrot.com. You can also register and pick up your race bags today, Wednesday, Nov. 24 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Blaine County Title in Hailey, or on race morning at The Community Campus.

Entry fee of $15 per person or $40 for a family up to four members is in effect through Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. Cost on race day increases to $30 per person or $70 family.

Midget Suns blank Eagle

The Sun Valley Midget/High School boys' hockey team posted a 3-0 shutout win over previously unbeaten Eagle on Friday night in Boise. The young Suns out-shot Eagle 15-7 and got goals from Anthony Martin (assists to Parker Weekes and Cooper Hanley), Doug King (Tom Crosby) and Rickie Jeneson (Mason Noyes and Riley Sibbach).

Nordic World Cup season debuts in Sweden

The 2010 FIS Cross Country World Cup opened at Gallivare, Sweden with freestyle and relay races Nov. 20-21. Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation Olympic Development Team member Morgan Arritola, 24, of the U.S. Nordic Ski Team was the third American in 60th place overall with a 26:40 time in women's freestyle 10-kilometer racing.

Arritola raced the third leg of the U.S. 4x5k mixed technical relay squad that was 13th Sunday, three minutes behind first-place Norway. Next stop on the tour is Nov. 26-28 at Kuusamo, Finland for a three-event weekend including sprints.

SV girl makes diving team

On Nov. 17, Sun Valley's Marlow Mizer earned one of three coveted open positions on the eight-member Phillips Exeter Academy girls' diving team, in a try-out consisting of 30 candidates. A 229-year-old coed residential school for grades 9-12 located at Exeter, N.H., the academy boasts a swim team that has 10 undefeated seasons and six New England Diving Championships. Former Wood River High School student Mizer attributed her success to excellent gymnastics training by Andrea Minnick at Wood River Gymnastics Academy.

Farrington among Winter Dew Tour picks

Sun Valley snowboard slopestyle athletes Kaitlyn Farrington, Wyatt Caldwell and Scotty Pike are among locals who have been confirmed to compete at the Winter Dew Tour's Nike 6.0 Open Dec. 16-19 at Breckenridge, Colo. Other stops on the third annual tour include Killington, Vt. Jan. 20-23 and Snowbasin at Ogden, Utah Feb. 10-13 for the tour's Toyota Championships. Farrington is the reigning women's snowboard superpipe champ on the tour.
