Registering Bikes Can Help Combat Theft

Ketchum police Sgt. Dave Kassner shows Sydney and Carson Smith where the serial number can be found on a bicycle. Serial number registration was available at public events on bike theft and prevention Tuesday in Ketchum and Wednesday in Hailey. Marc Driver, who organized the events along with Kassner, said more bike-theft-prevention meetings will be held next spring. “If word gets out that bikes are registered in the town, then hopefully it will be less of a target for thieves,” Driver said. The events were held because of a recent rash by bicycle thefts in the area.Express photograph by David N. Seelig
