Single-day lift ticket price same as last year

Season-pass discounts extended

The price of skiing Bald Mountain in peak season won't be a cent more than last winter, a fact that could rarely be stated in past years. Peak-season prices have risen each year from $66 for a day on the mountain in the 2003-04 season to $85 last season, a 29 percent increase.

The peak-season price remains unchanged at $85 this season after jumping a higher-than-usual $5 last year.

Skiing Dollar Mountain during the peak season—Dec. 24 through Jan. 2 and Feb. 19 through Feb. 27—will cost $2 more for adults, at $44. The mountain saw increased traffic last year with its new terrain park. Dollar Mountain, which along with nearby Proctor Mountain was home to the world's first two chairlifts, had a jump line, 13 rails, boxes and jibs installed last winter.

Sun Valley Resort stated that the terrain park would be expanded this year, announcing Dollar will now showcase an additional 24 new rails and jibs in three new terrain parks at Old Bowl, Half Dollar and Poverty Flats.

While Baldy won't have a price increase in its peak rate, regular and value-season prices are each up $1.

Season-pass discounts extended

Sun Valley Resort offers seven kinds of passes, from the full season pass allowing unlimited skiing throughout the entire season to weekend discount cards and early/late passes. The resort announced Wednesday that the Friday, Nov. 19, deadline of buying any of the passes at a discount has been extended to Sunday. Starting Monday, Nov. 22, all passes will be sold at the regular prices.

Skiers who buy before Monday receive $200 off, a 10 percent reduction, whether buying a season pass or Sun Plus Season Pass. The respective regular prices are $1,899 and $1,999.

The largest discount, percentage wise, is on the season discount card. The card has been marked down 35 percent, costing $109 instead of $169 if bought before Monday. This card, like the weekend discount card, lets skiers buy a day lift ticket for a reduced price. For example, a season-discount-card holder skis Baldy for $57 a day during the peak season instead of the normal $85.

Buying a ski pass

People can go to the resort's website, www.sunvalley.com/tickets, to buy a season pass. They can also buy a pass at the River Run pass office, where they will need to go anyway to have a photo taken. Those interested in buying a pass should take note that a memorial service will be held for state Sen. Clint Stennett at River Run Lodge from 2-5 p.m. today, Nov. 19. Passes can also be purchased at the Recreation Office in Sun Valley Village.
