Dine out for Thanksgiving

Valley restaurants to serve meals with all the trimmings

Thanksgiving Day in the Wood River Valley is a celebration of family and friends through feasts, activities and community awareness. The options for enjoying a day off on Thursday, Nov. 25, are bountiful this year.

It starts with a pajama anniversary party at Java on Fourth in Ketchum, which celebrates 19 years in business. The tradition began when coffeehouse owner Todd Rippo opened his business. Show up in pajamas from 7 a.m. to noon and enjoy a free Bellini cocktail.

For those who need to prepare for a day of eating, start off with the annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5k. The 7th annual 3.1-mile walk or run benefits Girls on the Run and Souper Supper. The event starts at 10 a.m. at the Community Campus in Hailey. Entry is $15 per person or $40 for a family of four. For details, visit www.HaileyTurkeyTrot.com.

Sun Valley Resort offers a plethora of dining options, including the Sun Valley Inn Limelight Ballroom Thanksgiving buffet from 4-8 p.m. The dinner is $39.50 for adults and $22.50 for kids under 12. Feast on a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, which will include prime rib, salmon, duck and a variety of desserts while the Leana Leach Trio performs. For details, call 622-2135.

The Lodge Dining Room will be open from 2-8 p.m. with the Sun Valley Trio performing. Gretchen's Restaurant will serve a Thanksgiving special menu from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Trail Creek Cabin will serve Thanksgiving dinner from 5-10 p.m. The Ram Restaurant will serve a seasonal menu with Thanksgiving specials from 4-9 p.m. with Larry Harshbarger on piano.

In addition, a gourmet buffet dinner with the seasonal debut of "Forever Plaid" will take place on Friday, Nov. 26, at 6:30 p.m. The live show will start at 8 p.m. and doors for the show open at 7:30 p.m. Dinner and the show cost $36 for adults and $24 for those under 12. Other Thanksgiving Day dinners will take place at The Grill at the Knob Hill Inn, the new winter home of The Bigwood Grill. Dinner is 3-9 p.m. For details, call 726-8004. The Roosevelt Grille in Ketchum will hold its ninth annual Thanksgiving dinner from 3-8 p.m. with doors opening at 2 p.m. for après ski and football. Riccabona's in Ketchum will also serve Thanksgiving dinner. For reservations, call 726-1166. Cristina's in Ketchum will have Thanksgiving dinner beginning at 4:30 p.m. until closing. For reservations, call 726-4499. In Hailey, CK's Real Food will be open for Thanksgiving dinner. For details, call 788-1223.

The most important Thanksgiving Day dinner in the valley will take place at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Hailey at 4 p.m. The special Souper Supper dinner is free and open to anyone in the community. Parishioner Tammy Eaton continues to keep the tradition alive of having a community Thanksgiving Day dinner so no one has to be alone and the community can share in a festive meal together.
