The daughter of a princess and the sister of a Hollywood actress are just two interesting biological facts that describe author Christina Oxenberg. But there's much more to the comedic writer's resume. Her life has been a whirlwind of experiences with an education that includes 14 schools, a marriage and divorce to painter Damian Elwes, brother of "Princess Bride's" main character, Cary Elwes, and founder of a luxurious, high-end knitwear line enjoyed by Vogues' Anna Wintour.
Oxenberg has published several books on her life experiences, fiction and nonfiction, including "Royal Blue," "Taxi" and more recently, "Do These Gloves Make My Ass Look Fat?"
"The title is also the title of one of the stories in the book," Oxenberg said. "It's a comment on female neurosis, which I am very prone to."
Oxenberg's experience in her knitwear company influenced her title. She said she often witnessed customers with unexplainable neuroses.
"It's about the men that made us crazy," she said with a laugh. "And we are crazy."
Her writing is humorous and whimsical.
"It's straight-up entertainment and all I want to do is make you laugh," she said. "If I've made you laugh, I've accomplished what I want."
Oxenberg has been a weekly contributor to Takimag.com and written for Allure, Penthouse and the London Sunday Times magazine.
"Do These Gloves Make My Ass Look Fat?" includes an array of short stories such as a date with Steve Martin, being denied a library card, a Subway shop in Southampton, N.Y., and other stories on outrageous oddities of living in the Hamptons.
"I hear it all the time that many people feel they never felt like they belong anywhere," she said. "I feel that too and that's why I write."
Oxenberg will give a free presentation on her latest work at The Community Library in Ketchum on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 6 p.m.
