Supporting the Sun Valley and Ketchum fire departments is easy to do when it's one of the most anticipated parties of the season. On Saturday, Nov. 20, at 8 p.m., the Sun Valley Limelight Room will host the 31st annual Firefighters Ball. Tickets are $15, available at the door and at Atkinsons' Market in Ketchum and the Sun Valley and Ketchum fire departments. Tickets include a souvenir cup. In addition, the evening will have a cash bar.

The evening will feature live music by the Freddie Pink Band and attendees will have the opportunity to take photos with fire apparatus and other firefighter items.

"This is our big volunteer fundraiser for Ketchum and Sun Valley, and proceeds benefit both departments equally," said Richard Williams a volunteer engineer paramedic.

Williams said funds raised from the Firefighters Ball will go toward the purchase of a mobile data computer system for the fire departments.

"It will show us maps and pre-plans for buildings in the area," Williams said. "We currently operate and dispatch to a residence from a 911 call and use one of several three-ring binders in the trucks to look for addresses between Ketchum and Sun Valley."

Williams said updating the binders takes a lot of manpower and is not very accurate.

The new system will show vital information for firefighters such as the closest water hydrant, location photos and many more details. In addition, the computer system will be touch screen.

"It's an amazing system," Williams said. "It will be beneficial."
