‘Madama Butterfly’ To Screen At Magic Lantern

“Madama Butterfly” by Giacomo Puccini is one of the world’s most beloved and dramatic operas. It is a classic tale of colliding hearts and cultures set in 19th-century Japan. The San Francisco Opera Orchestra and Chorus will present its version of “Madama Butterfly” in a film at the Magic Lantern Cinema Screening Rooms in Ketchum on Wednesday, Nov. 10, and Thursday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12. The opera will feature internationally acclaimed soprano Patricia Racette as Cio-Cio-San, a geisha tragically torn between two worlds and forced to make the ultimate sacrifice to retain her honor. In addition, Maestro Donald Runnicles conducts the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and Chorus in a stirring production that features some of Puccini’s most popular music, which is sung in Italian with English supertitles with a running time of two hours and 40 minutes with one intermission.
