Three former Wood River High School volleyball players have been important contributors for the Treasure Valley Community College Chukars volleyball team this fall.

They are sophomore Angela Coleman along with freshmen Grace Lagodich and Ellen Johnson.

In September, Treasure Valley CC won the second-place silver trophy in a tournament at Clackamas Community College in Portland, Ore. The Chukars beat Lower Columbia, Chemeketah, Umpqua and Clackamas to reach the title match where they lost three games to one to Blue Mountain.

Recently, the Chukars tied for second in an Oct. 15-16 home tourney at Ontario, Ore. On the first day, TVCC won three matches over Centralia (3-1, 26-24 final game), Lower Columbia (3-1, 26-24 final game) and Whatcom (3-2, 15-12 final game).

The next day, Coleman had 10 digs and Lagodich made four blocks in Treasure Valley's 20-25, 25-22, 26-24, 23-25, 15-11 win over Clackamas CC—but Blue Mountain won the title again 3-0 over TVCC.

In other matches: Lagodich (8 kills) and Coleman (9 kills, 10 digs, 2 blocks) had one of their best matches in a three-game home loss to Walla Walla Community College Oct. 6; Lagodich (6 kills) and Coleman (2 kills) chipped in during a three-game home loss to Columbia Basin Oct. 22.

The Chukars (15-19, 1-8 league) are in the eight-team East Division of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC).

They're not headed for the playoffs this year, but they can play spoiler in the matches ahead.

Treasure Valley CC plays today, Friday, Oct. 29 at Wenatchee Valley (24-3, 7-2) and then continues its trip with a match Saturday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. at Yakima Valley (14-10, 4-6).

Their final home games in Ontario are Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. against league-leading Blue Mountain (34-4, 9-0) and Friday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. against Spokane (26-8, 8-1). The Chukars wind up their season Wednesday, Nov. 10 in Washington State at Walla Walla (17-16, 3-7).
