Defending State 1A Division 2 champion Camas County of Fairfield and Dietrich are going back to the state volleyball tournament because of their 1-2 finish in this week’s Northside Conference meet at Carey.
Led by junior hitter Katelyn Peterson, top-seeded Camas County fought off the second-seeded defending Northside tourney champ Dietrich by scores of 20-25, 27-25, 25-18, 14-25, 15-13 in Wednesday’s title match on the Carey floor.
Then, Dietrich defeated fifth-seeded Lighthouse Christian Academy 25-12, 18-25, 25-18, 25-21 to gain second place and the other automatic Northside ticket to the eight-team State 1A Division 2 tournament Oct. 29-30 at Burley High School.
Lighthouse Christian advances to a state play-in match Saturday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m. at American Falls for a third berth in the state tournament.
The host Carey Panthers (5-15) played with determination in their two loser-out matches Tuesday on their home court, but the Panther season ended with a hard-fought 25-19, 20-25, 25-16, 8-25, 15-13 loss to Lighthouse Christian.
Earlier Tuesday, sixth-seeded Carey ended the season for seventh-seeded The Community School 25-15, 25-17, 25-12. Leading the Panthers were juniors Micaela Adamson (9 kills, 5 blocks, 5 winning serves with 3 aces) and Darby Northcott (7 kills, 13 winning serves with 2 aces).
Adamson had five kills in the first game and Northcott five kills in the second. Soph Jaide Parke (4 aces, 1 kill) served 12 straight points in the third game to put the match away.
Other Panther contributors included Danie Hennefer (3 kills), Nicole Gomez (11 winning serves, 2 aces, 1 block), Taylor Castle (2 kills, 2 serves, 1 ace), Kelly Patterson (7 serves), Erika Zarate (1 kill) and McKayla Mecham (3 serves).
Community School (2-15) leaders were Meredith Pintler (9 kills, 2 blocks, 4 winning serves), Sophia Carkonen (4 kills, 4 serves, 1 ace), Natalie Goddard (3 kills, 8 serves, 3 aces), Morgan Jones (2 kills) and Julie Doan (2 kills, 5 serves, 2 aces).
