Human remains found

Police investigating discovery of bones by hunter

The Blaine County Sheriff's Office is staying tight-lipped about its investigation into human remains found last weekend by a hunter in the Wood River Valley.

Investigators are suspicious of foul play, but "we don't know yet," sheriff's Lt. Jay Davis said Wednesday.

Davis declined to say where the remains were found, explaining that if anyone comes forward with information, investigators don't want it influenced by what is reported by the news media.

"We don't want a lot of stuff out there to hinder our investigation," Davis said.

He described the remains as "bones" that are "old and not recent."

Davis said the bones are currently being analyzed to determine cause of death and identity, but declined to say where the analysis is taking place and by whom.

"We just don't have a lot to release right now because we don't have answers," Davis said. "We'll try to get more out next week."
