Fast Thursday, eat out Friday

Actions will help Hunger Coalition

By EXPRESS STAFF

The Hunger Coalition has dubbed October Hunger Awareness Month, and is asking Wood River Valley residents to take two actions to help fund its food programs.

First, the nonprofit organization is asking people to skip one meal or fast the entire day on Thursday, Oct. 21, and donate the money saved. That action is also intended to help people gain a little understanding of how it feels to be hungry.

Second, the Hunger Coalition is inviting people to dine out on Friday, Oct. 22, at restaurants participating in the organization's Dine Out Blaine County fundraiser. All 26 restaurants will donate a portion of their proceeds to the Hunger Coalition. And, the organization points out, the experience can be viewed as a reward for going hungry for part of the day on Thursday.

A list of the restaurants—in Ketchum, Hailey and Bellevue—can be found on the Hunger Coalition's website, www.thehungercoalition.org.

The organization is also seeking donations of equipment needed for its Hope Garden in Hailey. For a list of that equipment, call Hallie Reikowsky at 788-0121, ext. 311.
