Andrew Pfeiffer and Ben Stout had their best runs of 2010 for the Wood River High cross country team during Thursday's Mountain Home Invitational for 149 runners at Canyon Cove Golf Course.
Pfeiffer, a Wolverine senior, clocked a 3.1-mile time of 16:57 to finish nine seconds off the top pace of Twin Falls junior Erik Harris (16:48). Next was third-place Stout (17:16), a junior, followed by seventh-place senior Alec England (17:47).
Wood River's boys had 49 points to finish second in the six-school team ranks behind Twin Falls (36).
In the 39-runner boys' junior varsity race, Wood River junior Sage Sauerbrey (19:44) placed second. Top girls were Corrine Smith (22:51) in 18th among varsity runners and Claire Bowman (27:09) 13th in JV.
Next: The state-qualifying Great Basin Conference race today, Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. in Twin Falls, sponsored by Canyon Ridge High. It qualifies athletes for the State 4A meet Oct. 30 in Soda Springs.
