They scored the first goal of Wednesday's High Desert Soccer Conference tournament loser-out game, but the Community School Cutthroats couldn't hold off the Buhl Tribe and fell 4-1 on the Buhl pitch.
Senior John Chrysikopoulos was the goal scorer for coach Richard Whitelaw's fifth-seeded Cutthroats (6-9-1), and sophomore Mason Noyes was Whitelaw's "Man of the Match." Junior goalkeeper Tom Crosby made nine saves.
Third-seeded Buhl (7-8-2) stayed alive to battle defending State 3A champion Gooding (12-3-0) today, Friday at Gooding to determine the league's second berth in the Oct. 21-23 state tournament at Twin Falls.
Top-seeded Wendell (15-1-0) defeated Gooding 2-1 Wednesday to nail down its third state berth, but first since 2008.
Improved defensively but less effective on offense, Whitelaw's 2010 squad ended up winning one more game and having two more road wins than last year's team. There are only two seniors on the squad, but six juniors and eight sophs.
