The Community School sent four cross country runners to Tuesday's Gooding Invitational 3.1-mile run at Gooding Golf Course. Another four Cutthroat runners who are cross-country skiers didn't compete, since they are in Lake Placid, N.Y. for a Nordic training camp.
Sophomore Maranda Stopol (21:36) placed fourth overall in the girls' varsity race behind winner Sasha Kent of Richfield (19:11). Kimberly won the girls' team title 44-62 over Gooding.
Other Cutthroat girls competing on a pleasant mid-October day were freshman Sarah Williams (25:36) in 39th place and sophomore Sophia DeWolfe (29:04) in 51st place.
In the boys' race won by Gooding's Mike McHan (16:30), Cutthroat freshman Nate Nasvik (20:01) was 45th. Buhl earned team honors 48-57 over Kimberly among eight teams.
The state-qualifying Fourth District 3A/2A/1A cross-country meet is Wednesday, Oct. 20 at the same spectator-friendly Gooding Golf Course. The Community School girls compete in the 2A/1A race at 2 p.m. and the Cutthroat boys in 2A/1A at 2:45 p.m.
State cross country is Saturday, Oct. 30 at Soda Springs.
