Prep soccer tournaments are off and running

Big day of games Saturday in Twin Falls


Post-season tournament play for three of the four Wood River Valley high soccer teams begins Saturday, Oct. 9 with three 2 p.m. games at Sunway Soccer Complex in Twin Falls.

The other local squad, the Community School girls, debuts at home Monday, Oct. 11 at 4:30 p.m. at Sagewillow Farms.

Here are opening round and second-round games:

Great Basin 4A Conference

The second-seeded Wood River High girls and top-seeded Twin Falls Bruins are on a collision course to meet in the championship game of the single-elimination consolation bracket tournament Oct. 14.

Meanwhile, the GBC boys are extremely competitive this year behind three-time defending champion and top-seeded Jerome. Two state tournament berths are at stake in each tourney. Here are the games:

Thursday, Oct. 7, boys: Burley (7-2-7, 2-1-7, #4 seed) hosting Minico (7-7-2, 3-5-2, #5 seed) and Twin Falls (5-7-3, 3-5-2, #3 seed) hosting Canyon Ridge (3-11-2, 1-7-2, #6 seed).

Saturday, Oct. 9, boys (at Sunway): At 10 a.m., loser of Burley-Minico vs. loser of Twin Falls-Canyon Ridge; at 12 noon, Jerome (13-1-3, 7-1-2, #1 seed) vs. winner of Burley-Minico; at 2 p.m., Wood River (7-6-1, 6-3-1, #2 seed) vs. the winner of Twin Falls-Canyon Ridge.

Thursday, Oct. 7, girls: Canyon Ridge (5-10-0, 4-6-0, #4 seed) hosting Jerome (2-13-1, 2-7-1, #5 seed) and Burley (5-11-0, 5-5-0, #3 seed) hosting Minico (1-14-1, 0-9-1, #6 seed).

Saturday, Oct. 9, girls (at Sunway): At 10 a.m., loser of Canyon Ridge-Jerome vs. loser of Burley-Minico; at 12 noon, Twin Falls (13-2-0, 9-1-0, #1 seed) vs. winner of Canyon Ridge-Jerome; at 2 p.m., Wood River (11-2-1, 9-1-0, #2 seed) vs. winner of Burley-Minico.

High Desert 3A Soccer

Three boys' games and three girls' games will be played in the first round of HDSC tourney Saturday, Oct. 9 at Sunway Sports Complex in Twin Falls. All the losing teams will be eliminated on Saturday.

The top two teams from each seven-school tournament qualify for the State 3A tournament Oct. 21 in Twin Falls.

Saturday, Oct. 9, boys (at Sunway): At 10 a.m., Gooding (10-2-0, #2 seed) vs. Bliss (3-11-0, 1-11-0, #7 seed); at 12 noon, Buhl (5-7-2, 5-4-2, #3 seed) vs. Declo (2-13-0, 2-10-0, #6 seed); at 2 p.m., Community School (5-7-1, 4-6-1, #5 seed) vs. Filer (6-9-1, 5-6-1, #4 seed).

A Community School win Saturday would set up a second-round game Monday, Oct. 11 at 4:30 p.m. at top-seeded Wendell (13-1-0, 12-0-0). League championship game is Wednesday, Oct. 13 and the second-place state play-in is Friday, Oct. 15.

Saturday, Oct. 9, girls (at Sunway): At 10 a.m., Filer (9-6-1, 8-3-1, #2 seed) vs. Wendell (#7 seed); at 12 noon, Buhl (9-5-0, 8-4-0, #3 seed) vs. Gooding (2-9-1, #6 seed); at 2 p.m., Declo (3-10-2, 3-9-0, #5 seed) vs. Bliss (7-4-1, #4 seed).

The top-seeded Community School (13-2-0, 12-0-0) hosts the winner of Bliss-Declo Monday, Oct. 11 at 4:30 p.m. If the Cutthroats win Monday's game, they host the HDSC championship game Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 4:30 p.m. at Sagewillow.
