Stay on the beaten path

The U.S. Forest Service is asking hunters on ATVs and motorbikes to keep their motorized vehicles on designated trails.

"We are most concerned with instances where a hunter drives off trail to scout for game or retrieve game," said Forest Service spokesman Andy Brunelle. "... The impacts add up, damaging vegetation and causing soil erosion into streams."

Hunters using ATVs and motorbikes should pick up copies of the Motor Vehicle Use Maps from either ranger district offices or online. The Idaho Off-Highway Vehicle Public Outreach Project's website, www.stayontrails.com, has a link on its where-to-ride page.

ATV and motorbike riders are also urged to make sure the trails they plan to use are open before setting out, as not all trail closures are indicated by signs. Hunters also should check Idaho Fish and Game regulations, which can be found at http://fishandgame.idaho.gov, to check on trail or road restrictions in their hunting areas.

La Alianza announces graduation

La Alianza Multicultural Center will hold a graduation ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 12, for eight adult students who have finished various levels of education for their native countries.

The ceremony is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. in Room 301 at the Community Campus in Hailey.

La Alianza explained in a news release that the students are participants in an adult study group called Plaza Communitaria, in which adults who have not finished grade levels 6-9 in their native countries are provided curriculum and accreditation through the Institute of Mexicans Abroad. A team of five tutors assists the students.
