Community School soccer teams are looking forward to the High Desert Soccer Conference tournament starting Saturday, Oct. 9. First, they have some home cooking to taste at Elkhorn's Sagewillow Farms.

"Senior Nights" for both the Cutthroat girls and boys are today, Wednesday with 4:30 p.m. kickoffs on the two fields.

The earlier-than-normal 4:30 p.m. start for the boys is a good thing, because the Cutthroat boys had their Monday night 6 p.m. game at Buhl canceled by darkness and bad weather.

Visiting today are the Gooding Senators. The Gooding boys (9-2-0 league) won last year's State 3A boys' soccer tournament and are seeded second behind Wendell for the upcoming eight-team High Desert boys' tournament. Gooding's girls (2-8-1 league) fell 10-0 to the Cutthroats earlier this fall.

Ninth-year Cutthroat girls' coach Kelly Feldman (100-45-9) marked her 100th coaching victory Monday with a 6-1 High Desert win at Buhl. It was Sun Valley's fourth straight league road win by a 24-2 score.

The Cutthroat girls (12-2-0, 11-0-0 league) dominated a decent Buhl team (9-4-0, 8-3-0) behind two goals apiece by freshmen Whitney Engelmann (8 goals season) and Jordan Fitzgerald (12). Fitzgerald added an assist for the winners.

Kelly Hennessy and Hannah Dies (assisted by Freya Dickey) added goals for the Cutthroats, who led 3-1 at halftime against a team they beat 3-0 at home Sept. 8. The Cutthroats and Tribe will be seeded 1-2 for the seven-team HDSC tournament.

Meanwhile, Monday's Buhl-Community School boys' game was halted due to severe weather conditions—lightning, rain and darkness—after 34 minutes. Buhl led 2-0 at the time of stoppage. Cutthroat coach Richard Whitelaw said it will be deemed "no contest."

The Cutthroat boys (5-6-1, 4-5-1 league) lost 4-0 at Gooding Sept. 13 but are coming off a 5-0 victory over Bliss Sept. 24.
