Panthers visit Dietrich Thursday

Getting back to business in the Sawtooth Conference North Division, the visiting Carey High School Panthers used a 250-yard passing attack to roll over the Clark County Bobcats 54-6 in a mercy-rule victory Friday at Dubois.

Carey (5-1, 2-0 league) built a 40-6 halftime lead in the Sawtooth eight-man football league clash and ended the game on the 45-point rule during the fourth quarter. Clark County (3-2, 2-1 league) tallied its only touchdown on a second-quarter interception.

Panther senior Tim Hoopes (a team-high 11 TDs, 72 points) scored three touchdowns and threw a TD pass for Carey. Senior quarterback Caleb Cenarrusa accounted for the majority of the passing yards and tossed three TD passes.

Another star was junior Dillon Cenarrusa, who received a pair of touchdown passes. Senior Shane Bingham and junior Baley Barg caught two conversion passes apiece.

Carey coach Lane Kirkland thought the win at Clark County was a good way for the Panthers to prepare for a pivotal Sawtooth clash at Dietrich (4-2, 2-0) Thursday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. It is the first Carey visit to Dietrich for a night game.

Dietrich, 54-8 and 62-12 winners over Camas County (2-4, 0-3) and Richfield (1-5, 0-3) in two Sawtooth games, is led by the rushing of Alex Heimerdinger and James McDaniel.

However, Carey's defense did a good job of shutting down both Blue Devil offensive weapons during last year's 54-8 Homecoming triumph over Dietrich. Carey had a 571-275 advantage in total yardage last year paced by two long kickoff and punt returns by Dillon Simpson.

Carey boasts six straight wins over Dietrich by a 374-86 score since the Blue Devils last beat the Panthers 84-48 in Carey seven years ago.
