"Does your life have a flat tire?" asked Ross Bishop, a practicing shaman for more than 25 years. Bishop is based in Santa Fe, N.M., but he will bring his workshop to Ketchum on Saturday, Oct. 2, and Sunday, Oct. 3, at All Things Sacred Gallery in the Galleria on Fourth Street and Leadville Avenue in Ketchum. The weekend workshop is $250. In addition, Bishop will offer private sessions Monday, Oct. 4, through Wednesday, Oct. 6. Reservations to attend the workshop or to schedule a private session can be made by calling Meg at 720-6919.
Bishop was a presenter at the 2010 Sun Valley Wellness Festival and said he had a wonderful experience and great attendance.
"There has been a lot going on in the past few years, and I am busier than ever," he said. "I am seeing people moving through tough issues easier than they used to."
Bishop said his workshops give people the tools to face difficult situations and to cope better than they have in the past.
"More people are seeking help, which means change is happening," he said. "Many people have done psychotherapy, and they have become limited with that process. People are looking for answers."
Bishop said that in the past, shamanism was very mysterious to people, but today it has become more mainstream.
"What gets most of us in trouble is a belief we carry through life from a trauma, which can handicap us," he said. "I help people to go back to the place where traumas began and look at the truth of the situation."
Giving the chance to reform beliefs, Bishop's workshop is an opportunity to leave old ways and thinking to try out new and different ideas to bring about a happier existence. Participants should bring a yoga mat or something to lie on and a small pillow.
