District passes ‘transparency’ test

Blaine County scores ‘B-‘, compared to state average of ‘D’

The Blaine County School District scored a 'B minus' transparency grade in test results released Wednesday by a national government watchdog group.

While not a perfect score, the district exceeded the statewide school district average of 'D,' according to the Sunshine Review, headquartered in Alexandria, Virg. The Sunshine Review reported that 40 of 75 school districts evaluated in Idaho earned an 'F' for transparency.

Only two districts in Idaho—the Bonneville Joint School District and the Pocatello-Chubbuck School District—scored an 'A.'

The Sunshine Review used a 10-point scoring system in evaluating school district websites on "proactive disclosure of government information."

The Blaine County School District passed on seven points and failed on three.

The evaluation found that the school district website readily provided information on taxes, budget, meetings, elected officials, administrative officials, academics and background checks.

The district failed at providing information on audits, contracts and public records.
