Former chamber marketing director to start Oct. 1

Mountain Rides Transportation Authority announced last week that it has hired Carrie Westergard as "outreach and public relations specialist."

Westergard joins Mountain Rides on Oct. 1, leaving her post as marketing director for the Sun Valley-Ketchum Chamber & Visitors Bureau.

Westergard said she is leaving the chamber because of "uncertainties about the future" and because she saw the Mountain Rides job as a new opportunity.

"I've been here 15 years and involved in a lot of projects and events and it's been really rewarding and challenging," she said. "Positions that I'm interested in don't open up every day and I decided to jump at this."

Westergard's "uncertainties" have to do with the planned merger of the chamber and the new Sun Valley Resort Area Marketing group. Westergard said she "thought she had a future" with the new organization, but wasn't certain.

The merger becomes effective Oct. 1 and the new entity will be called the Sun Valley Marketing Alliance.

Westergard referred to the Mountain Rides opening as "good timing."
