"We played really well, especially in the first two games of our match against Lighthouse Christian," said Carey School volleyball coach Kathy Whitworth about Tuesday's home match with the Lions.
Lighthouse Christian (3-2 league) won 28-26, 25-23, 25-17 in the Northside Conference clash. But Whitworth was encouraged about the play of her young Panthers, who at one point wiped out a 12-point deficit and took it down to the wire.
"Micaela (Adamson) hit well. Overall we have showed a lot of improvement in our hitting and blocking," said Whitworth. "Now if we could do better with our passing, we'd be all right. We're still having our ups-and-downs out there."
Carey (1-7, 1-5 league) was coming off a 25-22, 25-10, 25-7 Northside loss at Richfield Thursday, a match in which the Panthers "scrapped and passed well," Whitworth said. Carey's one win was in the minimum three games over league foe Murtaugh Sept. 7 at home.
And the Panthers had another league match Thursday night, a Homecoming encounter against the Castleford Wolves (3-4, 2-3 league). Castleford won in three games over The Community School and Murtaugh during the past week.
Carey hosts The Community School Tuesday, Sept. 21.
Coach Kristyn Rutland's Community School Cutthroats (1-6, 1-5) visited Lighthouse Thursday. The Cutthroats will try to avenge a season-opening three-game loss at Murtaugh when the Red Devils come visiting The Fish Tank in Sun Valley Monday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m.
