District 25 Reps. Wendy Jaquet and Donna Pence as well as acting Sen. Michelle Stennett will join legislators from 13 states at the Council of State Governments-West annual meeting in Sun Valley this weekend.
More than 400 elected state officials, presenters and guests are expected to descend on the Sun Valley Inn on Saturday for a weekend of policy forums, workshops and lectures. Jaquet, who serves on the conference's host committee, said the purpose of the conference is to bring legislators from across the Western states together to share ideas, especially in light of the common problems caused by the current economic recession.
Idaho Gov. Butch Otter will moderate an open plenary session to kick off the meeting on Saturday morning. The plenary session will feature futurist Thomas Sanderson, deputy director and senior fellow of the Transnational Threats Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C.
Sanderson will give lawmakers a glimpse of what the political realm could look like in 2025, as well as what threats could be facing the nation at that time.
The event will take place Sept. 11-14 at the Sun Valley Inn. However, it is not open to members of the public.
