6 teenagers accused of stealing beer

Sun Valley police reported Wednesday that a burglary last month at the Sun Valley Deli has been solved and that felony burglary charges are pending against six Blaine County teenagers.

Assistant Police Chief Mike Crawford said five 16-year-olds and an 18-year-old are believed to have broken into the deli in Sun Valley Village on the evening of Aug. 15 and to have stolen two cases of beer. He said three of the 16-year-olds are from Bellevue, one is from Hailey and the other is from Ketchum. The 18-year-old is also from Ketchum, Crawford said, but is currently out-of-state attending college.

Crawford declined to release names because most of the suspects are juveniles. He said an arrest warrant is being sought against the 18-year-old and that his name will be released when he is formally charged.

Crawford said investigation has shown that the teenagers were "at a party in Bellevue when they decided they needed more beer."

Police do not believe the deli burglary is related to four others last month in Sun Valley and Ketchum. Two suspects are still being sought in burglaries on the evening of Aug. 9 at Elkhorn Springs Market, the Sun Valley Sinclair gas station and Thunder Spring in Ketchum. It is not known if those three burglaries are connected to an Aug. 16 burglary at Leroy's Ice Cream shop in Ketchum Town Square.
