Yes, I'm from Idaho, thank you. All those blank stares from the faces of friends from the past have suddenly changed to ones of recognition and envy. Yes, that's correct, nothing was garbled, I'm from Idaho, home of the No. 3-ranked college football team in the nation, the Boise State Broncos. How about that?

Their stunning Monday night victory in the stifling humidity of our nation's capital over a tough, highly regarded Virginia Tech team that was favored to win by the sports mavens of the East Coast finally left no doubt in the minds of the viewers of this nationally televised game from ESPN. The Broncos are for real—and so are we.

We all have friends and family from all over the country who now, begrudgingly, have to admit that Idaho isn't just a "red" state that harvests potatoes and strange politicos. They now understand that Idaho is a quality area that possesses beautiful mountains, forests, valleys and people, as well as a first-rate college football team. Idaho is for real! What a boost in the self-esteem department for all of us.

So, hold your heads up, all ye sons and daughters of the Gem State, and the next time someone asks you where you're from, just pause, smile with confidence and say ... I'm from Idaho.
