A Bellevue man arrested at gunpoint following an alleged high-speed chase in the Wood River Valley last month has been charged with three crimes—all of them misdemeanors—in Blaine County Magistrate Court.

According to court records, 50-year-old Stephen J. Kolp was arraigned Aug. 23 on charges of DUI, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.

Kolp has retained Ketchum attorney Brian Elkins as legal counsel. His next court appearance is a pretrial conference scheduled for Monday, Sept. 27. He is currently free on $1,000 bond.

According to the Blaine County Sheriff's Office, the charges stem from an episode on the evening of Aug. 6 on state Highway 75 south of St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center. Witnesses reported that a white, late-model GMC truck was being driven recklessly.

One witness, Kimberly Coonis, executive director of the Senior Connection in Hailey, told the Idaho Mountain Express that she followed Kolp at speeds reaching 85 mph to make sure he didn't get away.

The sheriff's office reported that Kolp passed several northbound police cars while headed south on the highway. He also allegedly sideswiped a car parked at the intersection of Galena and Main streets in Hailey and was finally stopped and apprehended at gunpoint at a police roadblock at Main and Bullion streets.
