Hailey should hire locally

I am compelled to write about the unfortunate fact that a large portion of the money that has been raised by our community to build the new rodeo grounds in Hailey is going to be spent with out-of-town contractors. There are many local businesses struggling for survival. These businesses are competitive.

If the community in this valley is going to flourish, we need to offer much more support to local businesses than we do. This trend of getting out-of-town contractors to do our public work has been going on for some time. If the public, which pays for these projects, doesn't raise the issue, we are not supporting our own interests.

I personally felt it was frivolous spending to begin with given the struggle of many at this time. Now the work and money are going out of town—what a disappointment.
