The pressure from the 4A Canyon Ridge Riverhawks was relentless, but The Community School boys' soccer team was equal to every attempt by the home team and captured its first win of the season 1-0 Saturday in Twin Falls.

Cutthroat defense led by co-"Man of the Match" winners Zach Lindahl and Colin Waycott and goalkeeper Tom Crosby (15 saves) was primarily responsible for the non-conference victory at Sunway Soccer Complex.

After all, Canyon Ridge (1-1) won its debut 6-0 at Pocatello Aug .21.

Coach Richard Whitelaw's 3A Cutthroats (1-2-0, 0-2-0 league) needed a goal, and they hadn't scored at all in two previous league losses to Filer and Wendell. As it turned out, one second-half goal by sophomore Ben Kanellitsas was all it took.

Twelve minutes into the second half of a scoreless game, freshman halfback Bobby Corker won a 50-50 ball at right midfield and fed the ball to Cameron Jenner. He passed to Kanellitsas in the center at about the 30-yard line.

Wearing cleats borrowed from Cassidy Carson, Kanellitsas launched a beautiful, untouchable shot into the left corner of the 'Hawks net.
