For the second year, Bellevue will hold a Labor Day 5-on-5 double elimination basketball tournament at Bellevue Memorial Park on the same day as its Labor Day festivities.
This year's tournament is Sunday, Sept. 5 starting at 11 a.m., with check-in at 10 a.m.
Last year's inaugural tournament featured six teams, and "our goal is eight teams this year," said tournament co-organizer and Bellevue City Councilwoman Tammy Schofield. Men's and mixed teams are welcome to participate.
Entry fee is $150 per team, with cash prizes going to the first- and second-place teams along with medallions.
Call in advance to get your team on the sign-up list or register on Sunday, Sept. 5 at 10 a.m. Schofield can be reached at 720-7160, or co-organizer John Hollenbeck at 788-3264. Sign up by Sept. 3 if possible.
The tournament is designed to raise funds through the non-profit Building Balanced Communities organization to help Bellevue with upkeep on the basketball courts and the Memorial Park area. The courts were resurfaced last year.
