Carey, Camas debut Northside volleyball season

Thursday night’s league match-up

Defending State 1A Division 2 champion Camas County of Fairfield invaded Carey Thursday night for the first Northside Conference volleyball match of the season. Led by Katelyn Peterson, a sophomore last fall, Camas County (20-3) went undefeated in four matches at the eight-team state tournament in Lewiston and beat league rival Dietrich 23-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-15 in the title match. Last year’s Northside tournament runner-up Carey (17-10) actually beat Camas for second place in the Northside league meet and has many players returning in 2010. This year’s Panther volleyball team gathered Tuesday night during “Meet the Teams” festivities. They are, from left, Dani Hennefer, Morgan Parke, McKayla Mecham, Erika Zarate, Angelica Zarate, Lorene Andrews, Sara Purdy, Ashley Durtschi, Nikki Gomez, Valerie Castro, Darby Northcott, Daphne Kirkland, Taylor Castle, Kelly Patterson, Jaide Parke and Micaela Adamson.
