Roundhouse trail up for review

Wish it was easier to hike to the Roundhouse? The U.S. Forest Service is considering a proposal that would connect the Roundhouse restaurant area to the existing Bald Mountain Trail, on Bald Mountain.

According to Ketchum District Ranger Kurt Nelson, the trail would help separate hikers from vehicular traffic in the area, and reduce the dust, noise and safety issues pedestrians currently face.

Sun Valley Co. would take responsibility for the trail's construction. The trail would be built using hand tools across the Upper Canyon, Mid-Holiday and Mid-River Run ski trails.

The proposal is now open for public viewing and comment. Scoping documents are available by contacting the Ketchum Ranger District office at (208) 622-5371. Comments should be submitted by Sept. 7, 2010.

Democrat on ballot reluctantly

BOISE, Idaho (AP)—Democrat Mike Crawford's name will be on the November ballot in a U.S. House race, but the Idaho attorney says he never intended to actually run an active campaign against congressman Mike Simpson.

In fact, Crawford says he doesn't really have a problem with Simpson as his congressman.

Crawford says the Idaho Democratic Party approached him earlier this year and asked him to put his name on the ticket to run against Simpson, a six-term Republican who represents eastern Idaho.

Crawford told KTVB-TV that he agreed to be a placeholder, and reluctantly opened the door for a political career that has little to show for itself. He's not out shaking hands. There are no Mike Crawford signs or buttons.

But voters should have a choice, Crawford says, which is why he is keeping his name on the ballot.
