Seelig Wood River Fire Protection District Commissioner James Frehling, left, and Fire Chief Bart Lassman, far right, present a Department Commendation to Wood River Fire & Rescue volunteers firefighter/paramedic Chris Thomas, firefighter/EMT Ruune Haavik, center, and firefighter/paramedic Ryan Yates on Tuesday. The commendation recognizes the three for “outstanding performance and their unselfish sacrifice and dedication to the community by improving emergency incident response times and providing an increased level of service from the Fire District's outlying station.” The three paid on-call volunteers pay a reduced rent to live at WRF&R’s station south of Bellevue, which is an unmanned station. In return, they help maintain the department’s facility and vehicles, and respond to emergency calls when they are available. The response of the volunteers has improved service to the outlying areas of Blaine County as well as increased the protection in and around Hailey and Bellevue. The commissioners added that “our community should feel extremely proud of these highly skilled firefighters and emergency medical care providers.”
