Emerging from the Bronx hip-hop world in the early 90s, New York City-based DJ Logic has been performing and creating his version of music with turntables. Logic's re-mixes and original mixes have landed him in collaborations with a range of musicians and bands including Blues Traveler, Steve Molitz & Freekbass, Medeski, Martin and Wood, O.A.R., Carly Simon, Jack Johnson, Mos Def and Widespread Panic. Collaborating with trumpet master Willie Waldman, DJ Logic will play his electric sounds and mix mastering at Whiskey Jacques' in Ketchum at 10 p.m. tonight, Aug. 25.

"I have been spinning for quite awhile," Logic said. "I am the jam-band DJ because I play with so many of the jam bands out there."

Logic said he grew up listening to hip-hop and soul. Today, many people consider him a musician, not a DJ.

"I look at it both ways," he said. "I am spinning, and I see the band as a third turntable."

Waldman and Logic have collaborated several times and enjoy improving their work, especially when they get to perform live together.

"I have all different kinds of collaborations, and I like to be eclectic," Logic said. "I have my own stuff I like to produce, and I write in the studio."

Logic said he is working on remixes with Widespread Panic and Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars. When he is at home in Manhattan, Logic will play all over the city at the Bowery Ballroom or the Knitting Factory.

"One of my favorite experiences was playing at the first Bonnaroo (Festival)," he said. "I got to play with all the entertainers on all the different stages and at different times. A golf cart took me around and people could not believe I could be in so many places performing with so many bands and musicians."

Logic has also played at Jazz Fest, which he said was great fun.

"I am looking forward to playing the new Whiskey Jacques' and people should come out and expect a cool and refreshing time," Logic said. "It's gonna be rocking."
