After its Sun Valley debut last summer, the Trey McIntyre Project returns to perform at the Sun Valley Pavilion as one of the top U.S. contemporary ballet companies. The company's summer tour wowed the Jacob's Pillow Dance festival in Becket, Mass., garnering lengthy rave reviews from The New York Times, which has been following the dance company for three years.

The Trey McIntyre Project will give a performance on Friday, Aug. 27, at 8 p.m. at the Sun Valley Pavilion. Gates will open at 7 p.m. For tickets, call the Sun Valley Recreation Center box office at 622-2135 or visit seats.sunvalley.com. Tickets are $30, $40 and $70. Premium-seating tickets are also available for $125 and include a post-reception artist meet-and-greet with hors d'oeuvres and a no-host bar on the Sun Valley Pavilion private south terrace.

Always going one step further, choreographer and artistic director Trey McIntyre is very connected to his surroundings and the issues of modern life. Some of his work is connected to his home base of Boise.

"Arrantza," a new work that will be performed in Sun Valley, is a piece about Basque culture. McIntyre said it has been captivating audiences this summer, allowing the art form of ballet to bring the Basque world to audiences who would otherwise not know about it.

"Exploring other cultures through the work I do is something I always like to do," McIntyre said. "It's nice to see things play out. It's satisfying to serve people and our audiences."

McIntyre said the company will also debut its work "Pork Songs," created as an "eat and watch performance" with four chefs in Memphis with Ballet Memphis. Sans the food, "Pork Songs" will be performed at the pavilion with music by The Kronos Quartet with the Tiger Lillies, The Bowmans, Danny Elfman, Redd Foxx, Golden Eagle String Band and The Clowns.

Using Ketchum dancers, the Trey McIntyre Project will also perform "Wild Sweet Love" with music by Queen, Lou Reed, Roberta Flack, José Alfredo Jimenez, the Partridge Family, Felix Mendelssohn and The Zombies.

"This is serious work," McIntyre said. "It is serious with any art form, and it's really about being honest as an artist. It takes discipline and bravery to be honest."

The Trey McIntyre Project is composed of loyal company members, which allows McIntyre to explore ground-breaking concepts and ideas.
