Nursing is a privilege

I started as an OR nurse at the Sun Valley Village Hospital in 1972, and then went to the Sun Valley Village Hospital in 1972, and then went to the Molly Scott Clinic for 15 years. In 1994, I returned to the OR. Nursing has enriched my life beyond measure—the perfect career choice.

In 1991, Harvey Gray established a memorial fund in honor of his father, Carl Gray, an avid Sun Valley Ski Club member. The Carl Gray Memorial Award celebrates excellence in nursing on an annual basis. The ongoing support and respect this award brings to our nursing staff has meant a great deal to us.

Each spring nurses are nominated (according to set criteria) by their peers. Then the nursing staff votes to decide the recipient. Being recognized by your peers is a wonderful honor.

This year, I was profoundly grateful to receive the Carl Gray Award. I have always felt privileged to be a nurse at the Sun Valley Village/Moritz Community Hospital/Mollie Scott Clinic and now St. Luke's Wood River.

The Gray family endowment is part of the St. Luke's Wood River Foundation. This foundation is funded by the generous support of our community. As a small rural hospital, this enables us to keep pace with the rapidly changing technical, educational and community needs. As a nursing staff, we benefit from the acknowledgement and support of the foundation in providing the best of care.
