Come together on marketing

Sun Valley has been presented with the opportunity to make amends to its image with next year's 75th-year anniversary. Being one of the best marketing prospects to attract visitors, now is the time to get work done and come up with a solution to the many facets revolving around the still-failing economy.

With this great opportunity, we, as a community, must realize that there cannot be room for hesitation based on a difference of opinions. It's clear from past articles and overheard conversations that Republicans are trying to convert Democrats and vice versa—but it just isn't going to happen.

As a community, we appointed leaders to accomplish the task of helping us to prosper. An already established system hasn't worked to its full potential for the past 10 years. This alone is the reasoning behind forming a committee (which took no salary) to compare and contrast our economy versus other ski resorts. The results were staggering: Sun Valley needs to change—it is on the bottom of the totem poll. Whether or not people may agree with that last statement is irrelevant because it's impossible to refute the overwhelming evidence that points out we have stumbled worse than any other ski-town economy.

As for the solution, will there ever be one? If we cannot accept that the common goal of both the marketing committee and the visitors bureau is to attract more customers to our stores, diners to our restaurants and adventurers to our mountain, then we will fail. We need for both parties to come to an agreement and support each other. A solution must be found fast or else all of us will be holding an empty bag.
