Thomas Goettelmann, 19, of Strasbourg, France, passed away last week as the result of an accident in Hungary. Thomas spent the 2008-2009 school year in our valley as a foreign exchange student through the Rotary Club. Three host families enjoyed his easygoing personality—the Kunz, Davis, and Storey families.
Upon his arrival into the valley, Thomas anxiously awaited that first powder day, which came in more abundance than he could imagine on Christmas day. He had a passion for skiing, playing his guitar, watching episodes of "Friends" and eating Nutella. This past summer, Thomas reunited with friends in Europe. Kuba Pros, Amy McGraw and Morgan and Scott Pike visited him, creating more good memories. Thomas was scheduled to attend Sorbonne University in Paris to study economics. He was born on Feb. 13, 1991, and died on Aug. 3, 2010.
Thomas's bright smile and French charm brought laughter and happiness to those around him. He will be greatly missed by his host families, teachers and his close friends.
