“In Harm’s Way” by Ridley Pearson. G.P. Putnam’s Sons, $24.95.

The literary and fictional Sun Valley Sheriff Walt Fleming is on another "Killer" case trying to catch a murderer in Sun Valley in Ridley Pearson's latest novel, "In Harm's Way." Not to be confused with the real Blaine County Sheriff J. Walt Femling, Fleming has become a popular character for Pearson, who recently spent some time talking about his character with National Public Radio's Senior National Correspondent Linda Wertheimer in Sun Valley.

Wertheimer traveled to Sun Valley to interview Pearson and learn about the setting for Pearson's "Killer" series. The segment is tentatively scheduled to air on Tuesday, Aug. 10, on NPR's "Morning Edition."

"In Harm's Way" is the fourth novel in the "Killer" series, which is now selling in bookstores across the nation. Pearson debuted his "Killer" series in 2007 with "Killer Weekend," followed by "Killer View" in 2008 and "Killer Summer" in 2009. As a New York Times best-selling author, Pearson has sold more than 6 million copies. His books have been translated into 20 languages.

Pearson conceived the "Killer" series based on the real-life Sheriff Femling, who is Pearson's good friend. The characterization of the sheriff in Pearson's books is a small-town lawman with brilliant instincts and a complicated personal life. In "In Harm's Way," Fleming is juggling his job, twin girls, an unhappy ex-wife and a budding romance when he is thrown into another murder case to solve.
