Travel Council coming to Sun Valley

The Idaho Travel Council will hold its annual summer meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 3-4, at Sun Valley Resort.

The agenda includes a discussion about changes to the grant program, a discussion about the Sun Valley-Ketchum Chamber & Visitors Bureau, travel guide cover selection and presentation of the 2010-2011 winter marketing program.

Idaho Travel Council grants will also be awarded at the meeting. Roughly $2.8 million is available for possible dissemination to industry grantees.

Created in 1981, the Idaho Regional Travel and Convention Grant Program is funded through a 2 percent lodging tax collected by Idaho hotels, motels and private campgrounds on the sale of rooms and camping sites. The public is invited to attend.

County hires animal control officer

The Blaine County Sheriff's Department has hired a new animal control officer. Deputy Paul Ramm will be responsible for impounding stray dogs, enforcing animal codes throughout the county, educating the public on wild animal behavior and dealing with animal-related nuisance violations, such as barking or violent dogs.

Animal control services in Ketchum and the county were being handled by sheriff's deputies since the retirement of longtime Blaine County Animal Control Officer Kevin McMullin. Last spring, the county cited the need for a trained professional in the position, and the job description required that all candidates be certified by the National Animal Control Association.

According to Lt. Jay Davis at the sheriff's office, Ramm has worked for the department for three years and attended the animal control academy.

Calls to Ramm were not returned by press time.
