For the second year in a row, drivers will push their high-performance sports cars to the limits along a rural, three-mile stretch of blacktop northwest of Ketchum.

The rally, a fundraiser for the Blaine County Community Drug Coalition, offers drivers the opportunity to ignore the speed limit along state Highway 75 north of Ketchum. Drivers will have a two-mile straightaway to hit their top speed and another mile to cool it down.

Last year, participating cars included Ferraris, Bentleys, Ford GTs and Porches. Several hit speeds of up to 190 miles per hour.

Even the driver of a Toyota Prius—a hybrid sedan not known for its muscle—managed to coax his car past the 100-mph mark.

The rally is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, July 31. A viewing area for spectators on the course will offer refreshments, chairs, an announcer and a digital speed display as the drivers pass the "speed trap."

Parking for the event will be at the Baker Creek parking lot, 18 miles northwest of Ketchum.

Spectator tickets are available for a suggested tax-deductible donation to the Drug Coalition of $20 for individuals or $50 for families. For more information, log on to www.sunvalleyroadrally.com or call (208) 726-2777.
