King of Vermont 100-miler is Jones-Wilkins

Third victory in four years

Community School Head of School Andy Jones-Wilkins, 42, graduated atop his class Saturday, July 17 in the 22nd running of the Vermont 100-Mile Endurance Race at Silver Hill Meadow in West Windsor, Vt.

Jones-Wilkins won the 100-Mile race by nearly 32 minutes in 16 hours, 1:40 minutes. It was his third victory in the Vermont 100-Miler in four years. His pace per mile was 9:37.

There were 153 finishers on the course that featured total vertical gain of 14,000 feet, 70% of which took place on steep gravel roads. The racers started Saturday at 4 a.m. and Jones-Wilkins arrived at the finish line about 8 p.m.

He also won the Vermont test in 2008 with a final time of 16.07:52, a 9:40 per mile pace and first place by 17:27, as well as in 2007 with a personal-best Vermont clocking of 15.53:45, a 9:32 pace and a 6:24 triumph.

Jones-Wilkins competed just three weeks after cracking the top 10 in another 100-miler.

He placed ninth overall of 328 finishers in the 38th annual Western States 100-Mile Endurance Trail Run June 26. His final time was 17 hours, 31:24 minutes. He was second in the Masters Division in an event held on trails in the California Sierras near Auburn.
