Comedy Central specials, sold-out shows and successful DVD sales make stand-up comedian Brian Regan a celebrated entertainment figure.

"I can't make people laugh—they have to want to laugh," said Regan with a laugh. "When I get a roll going, it's a great feeling and I accomplish something."

Regan will perform at the Sun Valley Pavilion on Friday, July 16, at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $55, $45 and $35, available at (888) 622-2108 or visit seats.sunvalley.com.

In September 2008, Regan starred in his second one-hour Comedy Central special, "The Epitome of Hyperbole," which was released on DVD that same month. Regan has been selling out theaters nationwide since 2005. It's rare for a comedian to make the leap from comedy clubs to theaters without the exposure of his own television show or film.

"Sun Valley is a brand new market for me," Regan said. "I'm looking forward to seeing what's happening there."

Regan said he has gone through all the trials and tribulations of every comedian, including repeating jokes, receiving no laughs or goofing up a joke, which he can joke about—a comedic luxury.

With his first appearance on "The Late Show with David Letterman" in 1995, Regan solidified his place on the show and recently made his 20th appearance. He regularly visits with Conan O'Brien.

"I never considered myself the class clown," he said. "But in my small circle of friends, I was the clown."

Regan will have some new material, and at 52, he said he has been talking about his body falling apart.

"When things hurt, you have to live with it," he said. "You suffer."
