Democratic Contender Visits Valley

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Keith Allred, center, was in the valley politicking and fundraising Sunday. Flanked by his wife, Christine, left, and Blaine County Commissioner Angenie McCleary, Allred appeared during at a picnic reception on Broadford Road, south of Hailey. Allred said he was optimistic about his chances against incumbent Republican Gov. Butch Otter, and cited recent political polls indicating he was tightening the race. Allred claimed Otter’s 7.5 percent education cut was “the worst political mistake in decades.” Allred also claimed he was the strongest Democratic contender for governor in his lifetime, due to what he called five years of “bipartisan success” in the Legislature protecting private property rights and cutting property taxes on homes.
